Margaret (Peg) Derby Kauffmanwas born on October 9, 1948 in Glens Falls, NY to John and Mary Derby. She and her late brother, Richard Derby, loved growing up in upstate New York, and Peg had especially fond memories of their many summers together on Lake George.
Peg first moved to Pennsylvania in 1968 to attend the University of Pennsylvania, and had been a resident of Elverson, living in the same old stone house on Bollinger Road since 1974. Peg took great interest in the local community, and valued the close and enduring friendships she made here. Her cheerful and easygoing nature was a gift she shared with all who interacted with her. Peg’s radiant smile and infectious laugh were among her best-known traits.
She had a nurturing and giving personality, and took a genuine interest in the lives of others. Peg found enjoyment in a broad range of volunteering activities, most recently including helping children with developmental disabilities, teaching English as a second language, and working with the ‘Art Goes to School’ program. Peg embraced the rhythms of country life and took particular joy in rug hooking and gardening. She was quite active with the Brandywine Rug Hooking Guild and became a Master Gardener. She loved life and found special joy in sharing her time and energy creatively.
Peg died on March 2, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. Peg is survived by her husband of 38 years, Morris, her son, Joseph, her daughters, Jennifer and Caitlin, grandchildren, Avital and Rafael, and her dog, Bella.
