On March 22 and 23, 210 choral students from 80 different high schools will be showcasing their talents at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) Region V Chorus Festival. Students from District 10 will be participating in workshops and lessons to work on their skills before performing for the community under host director Mr. Scott J. Piergrossi and guest conductor Dr. William Cutter. To be selected, students auditioned for the PMEA District 10 Choral Festival held at Berks Catholic High School this year and must re-audition on the same music for the Region Chorus.

‘When you see what these students can do musically in three days you are amazed. The sound and quality of this chorus is top notch,’ said Pergrossi in an email. He believes that a performance at this level only helps support the arts in Pennsylvania and is great for the Hamburg community as well.

Though Hamburg High School hosted the District 10 Chorus in 2005, this is the first time Hamburg is hosting the Region V Chorus. Students from Harrisburg, Lancaster, Berks Country, Schuylkill County, Poconos and Lehigh Valley School Districts will be staying with host families while they take part in rehearsals starting Thursday March 21 and throughout the performances.

The concerts are Friday March 22 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday March 23 at 2 p.m. at the Hamburg Area High School Auditorium. There is a cost. For tickets call 610-562-3861 ext. 2132.
