Ray R. Bast, 88

Ray R. Bast, 88, of Macungie, died March 11, 2013, of natural causes in Lehigh Center, Macungie.

He was the husband of Joan M. (Bard) Bast.

Born in Kutztown he was a son of the late George and Mamie (Smith) Bast.

He was a 1942 graduate of Kutztown High School, and a 1950 graduate with honors from Lehigh University with a Bachelorís Degree in Electrical Engineering.

He was a Veteran of WWII having served in the Navy.

He was a member of St. Paulís U.C.C., Kutztown.

Ray was employed by Public Service Electric and Gas Company, New Jersey for 38 years, retiring as General Manager.

He was an avid hunter and golfer.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons: Roger (Fran) Bast, Quakertown, Steven (Susan) Bast, Overland Park, KS, and Gary (Debbie) Bast, Allentown; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren also survive.

He was predeceased by his siblings: Dorothy Fenstermaker, Jane Ferguson, and Carl Bast.

Sandra A. Schlott, 63

Sandra A. Schlott, 63, of Kutztown, died March 12, 2013 in Lehigh Valley Hospital shortly after admission. She was the widow of Richard W. Schlott, who died Nov. 5, 2008.

Born in West Reading, she was a daughter of the late Ann Elizabeth (Kirk) Barlet.

Sandra was a 1966 graduate of Reading High School. She was a self employed Avon Representative for over 30 years.

Survivors: Daughter, Christina M. Schlott, Royersford, Montgomery County and a son, William R. Schlott, Kutztown.

A viewing will be held Monday, March 18, from 1 to 2 p.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich St., Kutztown, followed by a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. in Berks County Memorial Gardens, 201 Evansville Rd., Fleetwood, officiated by Rev. Arthur L. Hahn.

Geraldine J. (Green) Heffner, 71

Geraldine J. (Green) Heffner, 71, of Maxatawny Township, died March 12, 2013 in the In-Patient Hospice Unit of Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. She was the wife of Jeremiah C. Heffner, whom she married April 23, 1960.

Born in Bethlehem, she was a daughter of the late Alvin and Mabel (Steigerwalt) Green.

Geraldine was a member of the reformed congregation of Zionís Union Church, Maxatawny.

She was a 1959 graduate of Kutztown Area High School. Geraldine worked as a cashier for Bandit Truck Stop, New Smithville for 24 years, retiring in 2012.

Survivors: Husband; daughters, Sheryl A. (Heffner), wife of Ray A. Wiltrout, Mertztown, Sue E. (Heffner), wife of Loyde A. Nomland, Mertztown; son, Jarrod T., husband of Tracy L. (Ebeling) Heffner, Breinigsville; mother-in-law, Anna V. (Angstadt) Heffner, Kutztown; sisters, Betty Schrantz, Shillington, and Janice Heffner, Kissimmee, FL; brother, Charles, husband of Kathryn (Smith) Green, Kutztown; brother-in-law, Robert Heffner; grandchildren, Alex Wiltrout, Jordan Geist, Lauren Wiltrout, Erica Geist, Sydney Heffner, Jacob Heffner, Emma Heffner and Benjamin Heffner. There are also five step-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by sisters, Blanche Moyer, Doris Bortz, Arlene Heffner, and Marian Barlet, and brothers, Allen, Lawrence, Lloyd, Erwin, Asher, and Valoris Green.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday, March 15, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 333 Greenwich Street, Kutztown. A private funeral service for extended family will follow the calling hour. Interment in New Jerusalem Union Cemetery, Fleetwood.

Charles Benfield, 90, of Topton, died March 12, 2013, at his residence.

Born in Topton on June 8, 1922, he was a son of the late Annie (Fox) and Irwin Benfield.

Elda M. Brobst, 91

Elda M. Brobst, 91, of Kempton, passed away March 9, 2013 at Lutheran Home at Topton. She was the widow of Robert E. Brobst.

Born in Albany Twp., she was the daughter of the late Scott and Emma (Kistler) Wisser.

She was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church in Stony Run.

Survivors: Sons; Dale R. and wife Alta of Lyons, Barry L. and wife Mildred, Jeffrey L. and wife Beverly , and Gary G. and wife Doris all of Kempton, grandchildren; Audrey Neiman, Donna DeLong, Kelly Kerschner, Kerry Brobst, Jessica Phillips, and Amanda Seibert, five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson, Gary Brobst, Jr.

Ethel K. Weidner, 95

Ethel K. Weidner, 95, formerly of Fleetwood, passed away March 11, 2013 in the Lutheran Home at Topton. She was the wife of John R. Weidner. On Nov. 23, 2012 they celebrated 73 years of marriage.

Born on Feb. 6, 1918 in New Jerusalem, she was the daughter of the late Cletus Y. DeLong and Lillian R. Knellar DeLong.

Ethel had worked for Lucent Technology, Reading for 20 years.

She was a member of Fleetwood Bible Church.

Surviving is her husband John and two children Sylvia D. (Weidner) wife of Jeff Stewart of High Point, N.C. and Gerald D. Weidner of Fleetwood. Also surviving are three grandchildren Cynthia (Stewart) wife Bill Karr of Lake Dallas, Texas, Jeff Stewart Jr. and his wife Mindi and Shannon Weidner of Savannah, Ga. Great grandchildren Caitlin Karr, Cathleen Karr both of Lake Dallas, Texas and Allyn Kaylee Stewart of Pittsburg, Texas. Other survivors include a sister Madeline (DeLong) Miller of Florida.

Ethel was preceded in death by her sisters Erma (DeLong) Weidenhammer and Mae (DeLong) Chickaeus of Florida.

Kathleen K. (Fichter) Yoder, 80

Kathleen K. (Fichter) Yoder, 80, passed away in her Topton residence on March 12, 2013.

She was the loving wife of the late Harvey P. Yoder.

Kathleen was one of 14 children to the late Arthur and Helen (Conrad) Fichter.

She worked for 35 years at Great American Knitting Mills, Bally.

Kathleen was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Spangsville.

Surviving are her son, Gerald Yoder, Gilbertsville, and daughter, Karen, wife of Joseph Mauro, Fleetwood.

She is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Kathleen was predeceased by her son David Yoder.

A memorial service at 11 a.m. on March 16, in Blankenbiller Funeral Home, Inc. 423 Main Street, Oley, PA 19547. Burial in Lobachsville Cemetery.
