On Saturday, April 13, members of the community will come together in celebration of the Honey Brook Community Library’s 1963 founding with a 50th anniversary Golden Gala. The event, arranged by the library’s Board of Trustees, will take place from 7 – 10 p.m. at the Caernarvon Township Social Hall, 3307 Main Street, in Morgantown.
The Golden Gala will be the grandest of the small series of events taking place throughout 2013 as part of the library’s semi-centennial. It promises an evening filled with fun and entertainment, with festivities that include catered hors d’oeuvre and beverages, music, special guests, and a silent auction.
The honorary chair for the event will be former Board of Trustees President Alfreda Labs, who served the library through the 1990s.
Invitation is by ticket only, and tickets are available through the library. Included in the cost of the ticket are hors d’oeuvres and desserts from Catering by Chris, hot and cold drinks, and dance music by Moore Music. Wine from Twin Brook Winery will be available during the evening. Evening social attire is recommended.
On display throughout evening will be the collection of historical items that offer a look back at the history of the library.
“We have scrapbooks that are fun to look through,” said McGinness, “and if anyone can find a picture of themselves as a child in the scrapbooks we will give them a prize.”
She added that items are being sought which can contribute to the library’s historical display.
“We are missing the first 25 year of our minutes and we are looking for anything that would help us put together that part of our history,” McGinness said. “Anyone who has something which they would like to share or donate should contact me at the library. We can make photocopies of items for those who would like to contribute but keep their originals.”
Several local authors will be in attendance that evening to discuss, sell, and sign their books. Among those attending are children’s book author Iris Dowling, young adult book author K.M. Walton, Civil War author Joel Moore, as well as authors Miriam Newman, Susan Weidener, Marie Wright, and Elizabeth Wilder.
The Board of Trustees, with the help of community sponsors, is putting together a silent auction featuring business and services from around the community. Among the prizes will be a Dia Doce cupcake truck rental, a YMCA membership, a Reading Museum membership, cases of beer from Victory Brewing Company, books, beauty products, and gift cards.
The Library and its Board of Trustees would like to thank the following sponsors and donors for their support: A Time To Be Born, Boscov’s Dept. Stores, Buy Rite Beverage, The Cottage, Dia Doce, Dawg Day Afternoon, Ellen Pyle, Harry’s Hot Dogs, HBCL-self, HB Golf Club, Holistic, Itsy Bitsy Baby Knits, Kings Herb Nook, Mary Kay, McDonalds, Moore Music, NewBee’n Farm, Reading Museum, September Farms, Shady Maple Smorgasbord, the Shannon family, Tastefully Simple, Tel Hai Retirement Community, Victory Brewing Company, Wegmans, and the YMCA Brandywine Valley.
