Students of Boyertown Junior High West kept their feet busy recently to raise funds for cause close to many of their hearts.
On Friday, March 22, West held it’s 9th annual Dance Marathon, raising over $27,000 for Boyertown Relay For Life.
“These funds really give our family, friends and neighbors a fighting chance,” said Jim Davidheiser, Boyertown Relay For Life chair, at the check presentation held at West. In addition to Davidheiser, American Cancer Society representative Amy Miller attended the event alongside Boyertown Relay members Kristin Quigley and Paula Babb.
Similar to the THON initiated by Penn State, Junior High students danced from 1 to 10 p.m. The dance marathon has raised an average of $20,000 for Boyertown’s Relay For Life since it began back in 2008. More than 60 prizes were given out to the students with the top fund-raising amounts. Prizes included gift cards, a mountain bike, a flat screen television and an i-pod touch.
Relay for Life of Boyertown is a community event and is open to the public. This year’s relay will be held on June 22 at 10 a.m. until June 23 at 10 a.m. Community members do not have to register to visit or walk. All are invited to come and go as they please.
