Kutztown EAC hosts Rain Barrel Workshop

Submitted Longswamp resident Kate Harms, of Start Your Change, stands with retrofitted rain barrels for a workshop.

The Kutztown Borough Environmental Advisory Commission is hosting a Rain Barrel Workshop on April 27 at 10 a.m. at the Kutztown Elementary School library. Deadline to register is April 10.

Longswamp resident Kate Harms, founder of Start Your Change, will go over the basics of building, hooking up, painting, and maintaining rain barrels before leading participants in the workshop where they’ll build their own rain barrels.

The registration fee for the workshop includes the food-grade barrel, the hardware, and admission to the workshop. At the end of the session, attendees will have finished rain barrels ready for hook up, so they should bring a vehicle large enough to transport their barrels.

Last year, the Kutztown Elementary School Parents’ Club garden committee received the borough EAC’s Environmental Stewardship Award for the garden they built at the school. This year, the EAC will donate a rain barrel to the garden that will be installed during the workshop.

Space is limited, register by April 10. Contact Karen Feridun by email at karen.feridun@gmail.com.
