(Updated 3:30 p.m.)NEW HANOVER – A reported attempted luring incident Friday turned out to be a misunderstanding, according to the New Hanover Police.
Officer Keith Youse said a young adult came into the police station apologizing Tuesday.
‘He was playing around with a CB radio thinking it was his brother and sister,’ he was talking to, Youse said.
The young man said he told the children he thought were his siblings that it was dark, after curfew and that they needed to get inside.
He then drove away ‘with his date for the night,’ Youse said.
Originally, on the New Hanover Police’s Facebook page, it was reported that the driver of a pickup truck told three juvenile girls over a loud speaker, ‘Don’t move. Don’t even run away. Get in the car.’
This occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on Donald Drive near Buchert Road, according to the page.
A CB radio was attached to a public address system on the young man’s vehicle, Youse said.
The truck was described as having a blue light on its roof.
Youse said police checked the vehicle and that everything checked out about it, It was not involved with any area firefighting or fire police organizations, he said.
Apparently the young man found out that the incident had blown up in school and immediately came to police to explain and apologize for what had happened.
