When we think of pop-rock, we being punkers, we often think of corporate sell-outs who won’t play a show for anything less than $20,000. Therein lies the beauty of writing a column about local music, you have to spend a lot of time on the Internet and will therefore find an exception to something you once believed to be true.
The Sandlot Heroes are a four piece pop-rock band from Bensalem and have not yet made national or international waves. The pop-rock that I like is often more relaxed alternative that is only called pop-rock because it could be easily packaged to a mass amount of people on the radio and sell on iTunes for a million dollars. The Sandlot Heroes could very easily be packaged as the next big thing that replaces The Fray, once those guys stop making music.
The thing that I like most about Sandlot Heroes is their ability to create catchy minimalistic music. Vocals, two guitars, bass and a drum kit: those are all that you need to make music and while some local acts feel the need to add an odd and out of place intro to their songs, Sandlot Heroes show you what is to come from the very beginning.
Each song that is on their reverb nation page is outfitted with great vocal harmonies, easy to listen to guitar riffs and a chorus that you’ll remember after it plays through the first time. More than 15,000 people on Facebook the Sandlot Heroes will be pretty big, pretty soon.
