Kutztown
Baseball
The Kutztown High School baseball team are 2-2 in the Berks League and 5-4 overall after winning three games last week.
On April 10, the Cougars defeated Wyomissing in a Berks League game, 10-2. Andrew Entriken led the Cougar offense with four hits, while Andrew Gernert added three hits (single, double and triple).
On April 11, the Cougars played host to Schuylkill Valley and won the game, 8-2. The game was stopped after five innings due to lightning.
Kyle Hartman had two hits including a three-run double in the first inning. Gernert added two hits and two RBIs.
On April 13, Kutztown kept the winning going after defeating host Reading, 2-1.
Gernert’s RBI double in the top of the 10th was the deciding run. He had two hits with a run and one RBI. Entriken added a double for the Cougars.
Softball
The Kutztown High School softball team won three games last week and are now 3-1 in the Berks League and 6-3 overall.
On April 10, the bats were hot for the Cougars as they defeated Wyomissing, 17-2. Meghan Donat had three hits whiel Courtney Stump contributed with a double, triple and four RBIs. Leah Crow and Alex Garrett each had a double and a triple.
On April 11, the Lady Cougars played host to Schuylkill Valley. Jodi Weaknecht had three hits and two RBIs to lead Kutztown to a tight 5-4 victory.
Jenna Grim helped the cause with two hits and run scored.
In a non-league game on April 13, the Lady Cougars shutout Blue Mountain, 5-0.
Taylor Faust led the Kutztown offense with a single, double and two runs scored. Stump added two hits and one RBI and Emily Lenhart added a double and two runs scored.
Boys’ Volleyball
The Kutztown High School boys’ volleyball team fell to 0-5 in the Berks League and 0-6 overall after losing to Antietam on April 11, 3-0 (27-25, 25-16, 25-22).Chris Rarick had five kills, five blocks and two aces for the Cougars, while Ryan noon had seven kills, two digs and one block. Mike Heiner added five kills and five digs.
Antietam won the junior varsity match, 2-1.
Boys’ Track
The Kutztown High School boys’ track team fell to 0-3 in the Berks League after fall to Tulpehocken on April 9, 96-52.
Austin Cory led the Cougars with a first place finish in the 110 hurdles (17.17 seconds) and the 300 hurdles (45.60 seconds).
Anson Weidner also won for Kutztown, taking first place in the 800 (1:16.2).
Also winning was Kutztown’s 1,600 relay team of Brandon Langston, Adam Stevens, Zach Parsons and Dylan Berryman in a time of 4:01.5.
Girls’ Track
The Kutztown High School girls’ track team fell to 0-3 in the Berks League April 9 when they lost to Tulpehocken, 75-60.
Courtney Moyer led the way for Kutztown with first place finishes in the discus (72’-3”) and the javelin (61’-9”).
Madison Deeds was first in the 1,600 in a time of 5:56.7. Adeena Woodard was also a winner for Kutztown, taking first in the triple jump (31’-10”).
Boys’ Tennis
The Kutztown High School boys’ tennis team won two of three matches last week. The Cougars are 4-1 in the Berks League and 7-0 overall.
After losing to Wyomissing, 7-0, the Cougars came back on April 11 to defeat Governor Mifflin, 4-3.
Winning in singles competition for Kutztown were: Tucker Landis, 6-2, 6-2; Skyler Fussner, 6-4, 6-3; and Freddie Shord, 6-2, 6-3.
The doubles team of Kirby Sibiski and Landis won their match.
On April 13, the Cougars defeated Pottsville in a non-league match, 7-0.
Fleetwood
Baseball
The Fleetwood High School baseball team improved to 2-2 in the Berks League and 3-5 overall after defeating Schuylkill Valley on April 10, 7-0.
The Tigers were led by Micah Storms who had a pair of doubles and two runs scored.
Softball
The Fleetwood High School softball team fell to 2-2 in the Berks League and 4-4 overall on April 10 when the Lady Tigers lost to Schuylkill Valley, 6-5.
Amanda Flinn led the Tigers with three hits including a home run.
Boys’ Volleyball
The Fleetwood High School boys’ volleyball team improved to 1-2 in the Berks League and 2-3 overall after defeating Pottsville on April 10, 3-0 (25-10, 25-8, 25-13).
Andy Kemmerer had 11 kills, two aces and a block for the Tigers, while Abe Jacobyansky added eight kills and two blocks. Nate Reinert added three kills, one digs, once ace and 35 assists.
Fleetwood won the junior varsity match, 2-0.
Boys’ Track
The Fleetwood High School boys’ track team fell to 1-2 in the Berks League after losing to Schuylkill Valley on April 9, 102-48.
Nick Hope won the 100 in 11.44 seconds for Fleetwood and Morgan Shigo won the javelin with a toss of 144’-11”.
Girls’ Track
The Kutztown High School girls’ track team fell to 1-2 in the Berks League after losing to Schuylkill Valley April 9, 75-74.
Cyre Virgo led the way for Fleetwood with three first place finishes. She won the 100 hurdles (16.09 seconds), the long jump (16’-7 1/2”) and the high jump (5’-10”).
Heather Wanner was a double winner for the Lady Tigers, taking first in the 100 (12.96 seconds) and the 200 (25.76 seconds).
Kendra Bamberger was first in the discus (102’-0”).
Also winning for Fleetwood was the 400 relay team of Ashley Diehm, Wanner, Virgo and Haley Sidler (51.29 seconds), and the 1,600 relay team of Wanner, Kaylyn Oxenreider, Olivia Allison and Emma Smith (4:22.8).
Boys’ Tennis
The Fleetwood High boys’ tennis team improved to 3-0 in the Berks League and 9-2 overall after defeating Kutztown on April 9, 4-3.
Winning in singles competition were: Christian Boyer, 6-4, 6-4; Cristian Melendez, 7-5, 6-2; and Tom Paganelli, 6-1, 7-5.
Also winning for Fleetwood was the doubles team of Boyer and Melendez, 6-4, 6-2.
Brandywine Heights
The Brandywine Heights High School baseball team improved to 3-1 in the Berks League and 5-3 overall after defeating Antietam on April 10, 13-2.
Dan Kristan led the Brandywine offense with three hits (two singles and a home run) with three RBIs and two runs scored. He was also the winning pitcher.
Zach Ernst also had three hits, two runs scored and one RBI for Brandywine, while Jon Dekovitch had three hits (two doubles and a single), three runs scored and one RBI.
Mike Hunter, Bryce Galzynski and Tyler Von Hummel each had two hits for the Bullets.
Softball
The Brandywine Heights High School softball team defeated Pen Argyl April 13 in a non-league game, 9-4. Dayna Jalowy and Sam Sweigart each had triples for the Lady Bullets and Jenny Seabourne added a double.
Megan Olsen was the winning pitcher.
The Bullets are 7-1 overall this spring.
Boys’ Volleyball
The Brandywine Heights High School boys’ volleyball team improved to 4-1 in the Berks League and 5-1 overall after defeating Oley Valley on April 9, 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-15).
Alec Hess led the way for Brandywine Heights with eight kills, eight digs and two blocks. Logan Gehman helped the cause with seven kills, 10 digs and three aces while Mike Tierney had four digs, two aces and 30 assists.
Brandywine Heights won the junior varsity match, 2-0.
Boys’ Tennis
The Brandywine Heights High School boys’ tennis team dropped to 1-3 in the Berks League and 3-3 overall after losing to Tulpehocken on April 11, 4-3.
Winning in singles competition for the Bullets were: Diego Pinto, 6-1, 6-0; and Bryce Pinkerton, 6-1, 6-4.
Also winning for Brandywine Heights was the doubles team of Pinto and Matei Jordach, 6-1, 6-2.
