The Honey Brook Fire Company will be holding their annual Quilt Sale and Consignment Auction at the Romano 4H center in Honey Brook on Saturday, May 11, starting at 8:30 a.m. The event will last until the final auction ends. It is a great opportunity for both sellers and buyers alike, and it a great place to pick up a last minute Mother’s Day gift or flowers.
‘The auctions will involve lots of goods like crafts, antiques, sheds, shrubs and flowers, lawn and garden items, and quilts,’ said Honey Brook Fire Company member Daniel Blank, who is a member of the Honey Brook Fire Company Auction Committee. ‘This year we are really focusing on springtime by having lots of lawn and garden items. There will also be a lot of homemade food (and) all profits go to the fire company for things like training and updating equipment.’
The auction used to be held in Honey Brook Borough, but was moved to the Romano 4H Center – located at 1841 Horseshoe Pike (Route 322), 4.5 miles east of Honey Brook – after the event outgrew the fire company grounds.
‘We are expecting between 1500-2000 people to attend,’ Blank said, ‘we are expecting a lot of plant and flowers. Last year we had over 1300 buyers’ numbers. Many people look at this sale as the place to go to if you want a bargain. Last year our sellers were very hapy, and they keep coming back with lots of stuff.’
Among those returning are a seller who is bringing in a whole tent of DeWalt cordless hand tools, and Souder’s Nursery of East Earl with their popular selection of shrubs and plants.
There will be over local handmade 100 quilts, as well as quillows, throws, and table runners for sale.
‘We have folks working the auction and sale who know a lot about quilting and can help those with questions,’ added Blank.
He advised attendees to arrive as early as possible.
‘We have people who show up as early as 6 a.m. on Saturday waiting to get buyers numbers. The earlier you get there the better deals and parking you’ll find.’
There will be sale time sheets available on the days of the sales/auctions.
Blank said that consigners can bring their items to the ground in the days leading up to the auction. The Fire Company auctions them off and keeps a commission. As all items are not equal, there are different rates assigned to the different classifications of items. Those wishing to sell their items should come to the 4H Romano Center ‘sunup to sundown’ on the Thursday and Friday (May 9 and 10) before the sale. Items which cannot be sold include tires, pets, and unusable items. Appliances require a $50 deposit to qualify for selling.
‘We will have personnel on the 4H grounds on Thursday and Friday for people who want to sell items. On Friday we will be having an auction preview with a pork rib dinner (for $10.00) from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.’
Blank added that the organizers have revamped the parking situation, and that attendees can park at nearby businesses The Golf Zone, A J Blosenski, Lyons & Hohl, and AMS, and take a shuttle to get to the auction. Look for members of the Honey Brook Fire Police who will be directing traffic for assistance on where to park.
‘This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year and the whole community comes out to support it. There is a lot of work and a lot of planning that goes into it, but it is a lot of fun as well. This event reaches out beyond the fire company and into the community at large. We want to thank the 4-H Center for hosting the auction, and also thank all of the volunteers who donate their time for this event.’
