Kutztown auction bidders will lend a helping hand to those in need and feed the hungry at Friend, Inc.’s 24th annual Benefit Auction on April 27.
“The Benefit Auction is a fun filled event that allows us to raise much needed funds to support Friend, Inc. programs,” said Sandra Wise, Executive Director, Friend, Inc. Community Services in Kutztown.
Held at Beltzner Hall at the Kutztown Fairgrounds from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., auction attendees can bid on art, jewelry, household items, travel packages, autographed items, gift certificates for local businesses (like hair salons and restaurants), and, of course, the famous desserts.
“The event is a great way to spend a fun Saturday night together with friends and family and at the same time be helping Friend raise needed funds,” Wise said. “They are giving back and at the same time enjoying themselves with friends and family.”
According to Wise, the Friend client choice pantry served 1,060 individuals in 2012, an 18 percent increase compared to 2011.
“The need for our services continues to increase with the families served thus far this year growing compared to last year. We need to continue to provide food to those in need in our community so they don’t need to worry about how they are going to feed their families,” said Wise. “Friend continues to lend a helping hand to the families that need our services.”
The Benefit Auction has both silent and live auction items.
“This year we have many different items that include trips and sports memorabilia,” said Wise.
The trips include a fishing trip for six to the Chesapeake, a vacation in Ocean City, Md., a week near Yellowstone National Park, and a week in St. Thomas. The sports memorabilia include an autographed Cole Hamels baseball, a Chase Utley signed jersey, Dale Earnhardt signed photo, and more. Visit www.friendinc.org to view more items.
“The benefit auction includes a buffet dinner, two rounds of silent auction, the dessert auction and the live auction,” said Wise. “The event has become known for the desserts.”
Dinner will be catered by Dori Martin Catering, which includes vegetarian options. Drinks (domestic and craft alike and wine from Blair Vineyards) are included in the price.
