A newfound competition group based out of Marilynís Dance Studio in Kutztown, recently participated in the ďI Love Dance CompetitionĒ in Harrisburg, on Sunday, April 7.

The competition is a national showcase of young talent, with locations all over the country, and has been for 35 years. This was the first year, in many years, that Marilynís Dance Studio has participated in competitions, and all of the young dancers walked away with pride in their studio, pride in themselves, and numerous awards for their efforts.

Eight dancers traveled to Harrisburg, some arriving indescribably early, and nearly 14 hours later, walked away with 10 awards.

In their respective categories, Greta Feiertag placed first in the Ballet Solo Beginner category, Sydney Knabb placed first in the Lyrical Solo Jr. category, Marielle Heydt placed first in the Lyrical Solo Sr. category, Maya Evans placed second in the Jazz solo Jr. category, Darby Andre won first in the Ballet solo Sr. category, a Modern trio made up of Maya Evans, Andrea Boyer, and Sydney Knabb placed first in the Lyrical trio Jr. Category, and a quartet made up of Andrea Boyer, Maya Evans, Makenzie Snyder, and Alyssa Zuercher placed first in the Ballet group Elementary category.

And they didnít stop there! Three of the routines also received overall high score awards. Darby Andre placed second overall in the 15-17 age division and the quartet scored highest in the Elementary category. The quartet then went even further, receiving Best in Show for the entire competition.

All of the dancers are currently students of Priscilla Knight, the Ballet Director at the studio, with Micaela Hulsebos serving as ensemble director and Alissa Clark and Melanie Chester as instructors and fellow choreographers. The experience was fantastic and Marilynís will continue to participate in these competitions. We look forward to next year and the new lessons that such an experience inevitably brings!

Look for us next December 2013, in Marilynís Dance Studioís bi-annual production of ďThe NutcrackerĒ!
