The American Cancer Society benefitted from Pottstown Relay For Life’s GOT TALENT Show on Saturday at Pottsgrove High School. In their Season 2 auditions, 30 vied at the Coventry Mall in February for a spot in the Finale Show. Judged by the panel of music-industry experts, lead by Lindsey Riegner, Judge Coordinator, the top 12 contestants were invited back for the Finale Show.
At Saturday evening’s show, 11 competed (the 12th had to drop out) for $1,000 in Coventry Mall gift cards. Caitlin Petack, a 9th grader at Oley Valley High School took 1st place and $600 of the gift cards plus prizes donated by team Angel-Lites and flowers from Achin Back Garden Center. Jordan McAndrew, a 4th grader at West Mont Christian Academy won 2nd place and $300 in Mall gift cards. In their unique Popular Vote ($1 per vote) contest which raised $1,226, Madison Kershner. a 6th grader at St. Aloysius, won a $100 prize as she raised over $400.
Last year’s winner, Ira Watts of team Family Affair, who returned as one of our celebrity judges along with Amber Ryberg, Antoine Long, Dr. Myra Forrest, got the 300 in the audience on their feet to his crowd-moving rendition of Johnny B. Goode and the Beatles’ Come Together. Matt Elgonitis of Phase One Entertainment who again donated his DJ services to the GOT TALENT auditions and shows, joined Ira on stage. Emcee Pete Tavella looked on in amazement at the fun & talent.
Ten Relay teams participated in the event selling food, drinks, raffles, 50/50 relay-wide raffles and more in the school’s lobby. Many other teams helped sell tickets to the show, which were donated by Kalil’s Printing. While the final numbers are not in as yet, it is estimated that over $5,000 was raised. All teams will come together at the annual Relay For Life June 1 at Pottsgrove High School track.
Some of the GOT TALENT contestants will be performing during this upcoming event. Check www.relayforlife.org/papottstown for details. The public is invited to spend the day enjoying the teams tents’ sale of food & raffles throughout the day as Pottstown unites to fight cancer.
