The Schuylkill River Heritage Area will host five Pedal and Paddle events from May through September that will take participants on a round-trip biking/kayaking adventure from Pottstown to Douglassville. This is the third year the Heritage Area is organizing Pedal and Paddles, which have proven overwhelmingly popular since being introduced.

The Pedal and Paddles will be held monthly on Saturdays with the first event planned for Saturday May 11. The others will be held on June 22, July 20, August 17 and September 7. Hours for all events are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Each Pedal and Paddle will begin with a guided 4.5 mile bike ride along the Schuylkill River Trail from Pottstown’s Riverfront Park to Historic Morlatton Village in Douglassville, using yellow cruisers from the Bike Pottstown bike share program. Participants will be given a guided tour of Historic Morlatton Village, which contains four 18th century buildings including Berks County’s oldest home, the Mouns Jones House.

Following the tour, attendees will take a short bike ride to Douglassville’s Ganshahawny Park where they will eat a boxed lunch and receive a brief introduction to kayaking. Then, they will paddle back to Pottstown in kayaks along the Schuylkill River.

Lunch, bikes, kayaks and all kayaking gear will be provided. There is a cost for the trip. Must be 16 or older to participate. Space is limited. Pre-registration is required. To register for any of the events, call the Schuylkill River Heritage Area at 484-945-0200 or email ckott@schuylkillriver.org with your name, address and phone number. Please register by May 6 for the May 11 Pedal and Paddle. All other registrations due one week prior to event.
