As we approach the end of the school year, there are many opportunities for parents and the community to come to our schools and enjoy the work of our students and teachers. Students will be showcasing their fine arts skills district-wide. I know that you will be impressed with the quality of student performances, their art projects, and their many achievements in their academic work.
The events began earlier this week. On Monday, our fourth grade students presented their concert in the high school auditorium. This was followed by the fifth grade concert Tuesday evening. The third grade concert will be presented on May 6th again in the high school auditorium. The remaining elementary concerts for students in first and second grades are presented in conjunction with the art shows in each of the elementary schools. Please see the list of events below for dates and times for each school.
The middle school will present two more concerts this month including the Intermediate Spring Concert on May 7 in the middle school auditorium. The middle school art show will also be presented that evening. The Advanced Spring Concert will be held in the high school auditorium the evening of May 13. The 5th and 6th grade play, a new opportunity for our students who love the theater, will be presented on May 24. The students will be performing Cinderella.
The high school will present programs highlighting student achievement across all disciplines. The Choral and Jazz Band Concert will be held on May 17 with the Band and Orchestra Concert scheduled for May 23. The high school Art Show will also be held the evening of May 23. Two programs will recognize our students’ academic achievements: students in grades nine through eleven will be recognized at the awards program the evening of May 22; seniors will be recognized for achievements on May 30. Our athletes will be recognized for their achievements on May 29.
Lastly, I am very pleased to announce that we will induct the first class of Distinguished Alumni this month. During intermission of the Choral and Jazz Band Concert on May 17, we will honor six alumni who have provided outstanding service to our country, community, or others in need; achieved recognition of outstanding contributions to his/her profession or career; or have made significant contributions to help others who are less fortunate. So, come and enjoy a wonderful concert and help us honor our first group of distinguished graduates of Fleetwood Area High School.
