Soundfactor Entertainment’s Adam Moyer is probably best known as the smiling, well dressed VJ/DJ that can be found pumping out jams almost anywhere in the tri-county area.

Out on Philadelphia Avenue in Boyertown, however, he is the name and face behind what has become the community institution known as Boyertown Idol.

It is hard to believe that this is already the fourth time the Berks-Mont Business Association will be capping off their Sidewalk Expo by handing some lucky and talented person a $500 check courtesy of their gold and silver sponsors.

Conversely it is hard to believe that expo goers will be treated once more to the high caliber entertainment that this contest brings to Boyertown on consistent basis. Of course, it is no coincidence that only the best of the best get to shine on Philadelphia Avenue.

The 12 contestants are chosen from the hundreds that show up at the five, count ’em, five tryouts. Given the amount of talented singers in the area, Adam has no easy job narrowing the field to the final 12.

There are some restrictions governing this contest, the full list can be found at the official website www.boyertownidol.com but here are some of the basics: You must at least 15 years old and be chosen from contestants at one of the five tryout events. Check the information listed for each try out, even though the contest is open to younger participants, certain venues require that a person be over the age of 21 to enter.

As mentioned before the competition is tough, but the atmosphere is always friendly and supportive. Here are some tips: try to pick a song you are familiar with, pick your song in advance (there are about 675 pages to look through so waiting to pick till when you arrive may not be the best idea.) Contestants are judged on several criteria including stage presence and audience participation you may want to take this into consideration when preparing. You may perform in more than one or all of the tryout events. Above all, relax and have a good time. Make the most of the experience.

Going to the official website www.boyertownidol.com will answer any other questions you may have. While there don’t forget to read through the song list, even if you don’t choose to compete reading through the list of songs is a treat in itself.
