Coatesville woman shot during domestic dispute

COATESVILLE — A 32-year-old city woman was shot inside her home early Monday morning during a domestic dispute on the 500 block of Victoria Drive, police said.

Investigators were called to Brandywine Hospital shortly before 6 a.m. to speak with a shooting victim who had transported herself to the emergency room, according to the Coatesville Police Department. Police officials said the victim was initially afraid to speak with investigators, and told them that she had been shot by an unknown assailant while walking in the 500 block of Olive Street.

The victim eventually relented, police said, and explained that she was shot inside her home while arguing with 27-year-old Vicshawn Hunt.

Police said the victim told investigators that she was involved in an altercation with Hunt after he refused to leave her home. In an effort to force him to leave, she said, she struck him several times with a bed pillow.

According to investigators, Hunt responded by pulling a small-caliber handgun and shot the victim once in the right breast. The victim’s 16-year-old son was awakened by the shot, police said, and Hunt eventually left the home after the teen confronted him.

The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening and she was released from the hospital Monday, police said.

At 7:38 p.m. police located Hunt at a home in the 100 block of Harlan Drive, where he was taken into custody after a brief struggle with police. He was charged aggravated assault with a handgun, aggravated assault, and related charges. He was taken to Chester County Prison after failing to post $100,000 cash bail, police said.
