WEST GOSHEN – Hundreds of motorcyclists gathered Monday night for a memorial ride in honor of a beloved volunteer firefighter who died suddenly late last week.
27-year-old Robbie Miller, who served with three local fire companies, was killed last Thursday after his motorcycle collided with a car on Strasburg Road just east of Lucky Hill Road. Miller was a captain with the West Bradford Fire Company and also served with the Good Will and East Brandywine fire companies.
About 500 riders gathered around 7 p.m. in the K-Mart Parking lot near Route 202 and Paoli Pike. Robbie’s younger brother, Ryan, led the ride with about 20 other motorcyclists decked out in black and yellow riding gear, Miller’s signature color scheme.
Since his passing, Miller has been remembered as a beloved friend with a dynamic personality. He was a 2004 graduate of Downingtown West High School who played on the school football team while volunteering as a firefighter. A similar procession, although smaller, accompanied Miller’s body to a funeral home last week. The firefighter’s death marks the third time in less than a year that the Good Will Fire Company has lost one of its members.
In November, Good Will captain Chris Good died from heart failure just hours after battling a fierce house fire in West Goshen. In July, former Good Will captain Jimmy Graham died after a bout with pancreatic cancer.
Monday night’ ride was escorted by law enforcement officers from the Chester County Sheriff’s Office and the West Goshen, West Chester, and Westtown-East Goshen Regional police departments. A memorial service for Miller is scheduled for Saturday.
