It takes commitment and determination to accomplish great things, and while one person can’t do it alone-that one person can set the gears in the motion.
Roger Lehmann has been nominated by the community as this year’s Citizen of the Year for his steadfast commitment to the Boyertown area.
‘I don’t do what I do for any kind of reward,’ said Lehmann, stating that he likes to work behind the scenes. ‘How many communities have Citizens of the Year? The award is more than one person-one person can’t do much. It takes a community.’
Lehmann is currently the President for the Board of the Directors of the Boyertown Lions Community Ambulance Service, Inc. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Boyertown Historical Society and the Boyertown Area Fire and Rescue Board. Most recently, a great deal of his time has been devoted to Fenstermacher Exercise Campus project at the Boyertown Community Park and to the Colebrookdale Railroad Tourist Project.
‘Boyertown is a community that bands together and accomplishes terrific things. I can’t do what I do without the community’s reciprocal support.’
In a continued effort to support his community, Roger volunteers for several organizations in the area including the Boyertown Lions Club, Building a Better Boyertown, the Oley Valley Fair and the Boyertown Relay For Life J-Walkers team.
‘If you ask me to do something, I’ll do it, but only if I can give it my all and 100 percent of my attention. It’s important for an individual to participate and be functional to help the group as a whole.’
Roger is also a past president and a current board member for the Berks-Mont Business Association, representing All County and Associates, Inc.
‘In every community, there is a ‘go to person,’ whom one directs their needs. Whether it be hands on help, advice, leadership or any of the other attributes that one has as a lead and community activist-Roger Lehmann is that ‘go to person’ in the Boyertown area,’ said Charles A. Haddad, Attorney at Law in Boyertown.
According to Roger, he couldn’t do what he does without the community’s support.
As far as the future goes, he says it’s difficult to name a specific long-term goal, however he is ready for whatever Boyertown has to bring.
‘Life today is so dynamic-as long as the goals better the community and you’re working towards that, such as the proposed railroad. If you become too rigid, it doesn’t help anyone. You need to be flexible, willing and patient.’
