The sounds of Broadway will echo from the walls of the Trinity Lutheran Church auditorium on Kutztown’s Main Street on Sunday evening, May 19, beginning at 7 p.m.
The concert will open with an instrumental prelude by a wind quintet playing ‘Anything Goes’ from the 1934 Cole Porter musical of the same name and the popular ‘Jersey Bounce’ of the 1940s. Members of the quintet are flutist Blair Boyer, clarinetist Wayne Luckenbill, French hornist Randy Ream, oboist Vicki Goodwin, and bassoonist Cindy Wlazelek.
The 54-voice Kutztown Community Choir, directed by J. Richard Wagner and accompanied by pianist Greta (Luckenbill) Ertel, guitarist Carl Zeplin, and percussionist Jonathan Quier, will then present a program of choral music from the 1940s through the current shows on Broadway. The program will open with a medley of songs by the well-known musical duo of Rodgers and Hammerstein, including tunes from The Sound of Music, Oklahoma, South Pacific, The King and I, State Fair, and the popular You’ll Never Walk Alone.
The concert will continue with two selections from The Phantom Of The Opera, Medley from Les Miserables, Walking in Memphis, Steal Your Rock ‘N Roll (from MEMPHIS), Choral Highlights from Jersey Boys, and Wicked (Choral Highlights). Seth Noggle, member of the choir, will sing Stars from Les Miserables as a solo. Other soloists will all be members of the choir.
A mini art show by members of Joanne Lapic’s Art in the Afternoon class that meets weekly at Trinity Church will be on display in the entry hallway for viewing before and after the concert.
There is no admission charge to attend the concert, but an offering will be received for the benefit of the choir’s music fund.
