Gabriel T. ‘Gus’ Popp, 92, of Honey Brook, formerly of Berwyn, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret Patricia ‘Pat’ (nee Schwar) Popp, with whom he shared 24 years of marriage at the time of her passing in 1981.

Raised in Erie, Gus was the son of Romanian immigrants, the late George and Emma Shuta Popp.

He was a 1940 graduate of St. Andrews Cathedral Prep in Erie, and then received his Bachelor in Pharmacy from Temple University in 1952.

Gus proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II as Chief Pharmacist Mate in both the Atlantic and Pacific areas aboard three ships.

Before his retirement in 1983, he was employed as a Senior Research Associate for Smith Kline and French in Philadelphia for over 30 years.

Gus and Pat raised their family in Berwyn, Chester County and in recent years, he resided with Stacie and Charlie in Honey Brook.

He supported many local charities and shelters including the Chester County Food Bank, Mom’s House, St. Vincent De Paul, Purple Heart, and the Safe Harbor Shelter in West Chester.

Gus was an avid gardener and most proud of his annual tomato garden.

Mr. Popp is survived by four children, Christine Popp and her husband, Jon VanDam, of Laredo, TX; Stacie Young and her husband, Charlie Young, of Honey Brook; John Popp and his wife, Kimberly Jordan, of Springfield, VA and George Popp and his wife, Michelle Cerrato, of Chester Springs. He is also survived by a daughter- in-law, Maureen Popp; and grandchildren, Caitlin, Matthew, Rebecca and Alexander.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, David Popp; sisters, Julia and Mary Popp; brother, John; and granddaughter, Shannon Popp Lema.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Thursday, May 16th at St. Peter Catholic Church, 2835 Manor Road, West Brandywine, PA 19320, where family and friends may visit from 10 to 11am.

Interment will be in St. Monica Cemetery, Berwyn.
