Hamburg Police Department in cooperation with Waynesboro Police Department, Franklin County, coordinated the capture of Keyen Darnell Camper without incident on May 14. The information was received from Crime Alert Berks County. Investigation continues.

Hamburg Police Department began looking for Camper after an incident on May 9 between the hours of 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. Camper was accused of having forced his way into a home located on South Third Street in Hamburg. He proceeded to the bedroom where he encountered a 24 year old female. He then allegedly assaulted the female striking her about the body with a belt. The victim was also sexually assaulted and managed to flee the residence. She was treated and released from St. Joseph Medical Center.

Arrest warrants were issued for rape, indecent assault, burglary, PFA violation and terrorist threats and related offenses.

The charges of terroristic threats and harassment are from an incident with the same female that occurred in late February when Camper threatened to slit the victim’s throat via telephone.

Charges for the incident on May 9 according to Police Criminal Complaint include: sexual assault, indecent assault without consent, indecent assault by force, indecent assault through force, rape by force, rape by threat of force, burglary, criminal trespassing by entering a building, criminal trespassing by breaking into a building and simple assault.

Camper was transferred to Berks County Prison where he waits for his preliminary hearing which is scheduled for June 10. The rape investigation continues.

According to the report, Camper called the victim around 3 a.m. on May 9. The victim got out of bed and went down the hall to the bathroom. When she exited the bathroom, Camper was standing by the door to her bedroom. Camper began to yell and talk to the victim. Attempting not to upset him, the victim walked into her bedroom and sat on the edge of the bed while Camper sat on the floor. He continued to talk to her stating that she made everything difficult.

Camper attempted to kiss the victim and became angry when she did not respond. He then grabbed her by the and threw her down onto the bed. Camper forced himself on her. After, he took his belt and began to hit the victim numerous times. Later he tried to become intimate with the victim again and when she verbally refused, he forced himself on her again.

There is an active PFA in effect that excludes Camper from any residence where the victim resides either permanently or temporarily.

The report of the incidents led to a warrant for Camper’s arrest and later capture. The investigation is on going.
