The Schuylkill River Heritage Area will once again celebrate National Trails Day on Saturday, June 1, by kicking off a drawing and handing out full-color brochures of the Schuylkill River Trail at four locations along the trail.

This is the third year the Heritage Area has distributed maps in honor of National Trails Day. The maps were updated late last year.

The accordion-style brochures include a large fold-out map of the entire trail, showing all completed, on-road, and proposed sections, from Philadelphia through Pottsville. The opposite side of the map contains information on shops, eateries and visitor sites located in key towns along the trail route.

Schuylkill River Trail volunteers will be posted at the locations listed below to hand out the brochure to interested trail users.

In addition, anyone who signs up to receive Schuylkill River Heritage Area email updates about the trail and other projects will be automatically entered into a drawing to win one of three $50 REI gift cards that will be given away on June 30.

Maps will be distributed at the following locations:

*Valley Forge National Historical Park, Betzwood Picnic Area (in conjunction with other National Trails Day activities) 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

*Pottstown Riverfront Park Trailhead, 140 College Dr., Pottstown 9-11 a.m.

*Brentwood Trailhead, Reading 9-11 a.m.

*Kernsville Dam Trailhead, Hamburg 9-11 a.m.

Trail maps are available year-round at the Schuylkill River Heritage Area offices at 140 College Drive in Pottstown, and at a variety of locations listed online at www.schuylkillriver.org. The drawing, which is open to anyone not already on the email list, can also be entered online at that web address.
