The Berks County Parks and Recreation Department wants to send you up a creek – the Tulpehocken Creek, that is. And, we’ll make sure you have a paddle to make the trip as well as the land-based means to return.

‘Paddle and Pedal the Tully’ is set for Friday, June 21. The Parks Department is teaming up with 3D Outdoor Rentals to make this fabulous event possible. 3D will provide the kayaks and bikes for the creek expedition, enabling participants to experience the scenic beauty of the area from both water and land perspectives. This event is also presented in partnership with Blue Marsh Lake/US Army Corps of Engineers.

The water journey begins at the Blue Marsh Stilling Basin along Palisades Drive in Bern Township at 5 p.m. The kayakers will paddle down past the Covered Red Bridge. The kayaks will be pulled out of the water at the picnic area where the group will break for a snack as well as a tour of the C. Howard Hiester Canal Museum. The participants will then begin the return trip to the Stilling Basin by bicycle via the Union Canal Towpath Trail. The entire trek is eight miles and provides outdoors enthusiasts with two great, healthful ways to enjoy the scenic creek and historic towpath area.

The expedition is limited to 15 participants. There is a cost that includes kayak and bike rental, as well as American Canoe Association(ACA) Event Insurance which is a requirement for participation. In addition, participants must supply their own life jackets and bike helmets. Registration deadline for the event is June 17. Payment should be made to 3D Outdoor Rentals. For more details, call 610-488-1900 or visit www.3Doutdoorrentals.com.

Rain date for the event is Friday, June 28.
