On May 10 the Reilly family, Matthew, his brother Tim and nephew Alex, opened their new Fresh Produce and Plant outlet on Route 10 next to the Heritage Restaurant in Morgantown.
Nothing speaks to a native Tri-Countian like the taste of fresh tomato sandwiches. Big thick slices of tomatoes on bread spread with mayonnaise. You know summer has arrived, the taste is distinctive – yummy!
Add fresh corn on the cob dripping with butter, crunchy salads with fresh grown lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, carrots and all the trimmings and you have the start of healthy eating. Delicious fruit including sweet berries and crunchy apples for pies or snacks are available in season.
Their mission is to bring the local community fresh vegetables and fruit right from the local Mennonite and Amish farms or purchased at the Philly Market docks and train depots several times a week. They intend to bring back the old fashioned ‘huckster’. That’s right, they deliver!
“There is no minimum order, and the free delivery area includes Morgantown, Elverson and Honey Brook,” Matthew said. “You can come in and browse and pick up your order or call us for a delivery (and) in addition to fresh fruits and vegetables in season we will also stock organic items.”
He added that they are also working with the Morgantown Athletic Association to supply fresh produce to concession stands.
“Healthy eating is our goal,” said Matthew. “We carry a full complement of related foods including our traditional home baked goods and specialty breads (banana, zucchini, etc.), and our home made pickled cucumbers, eggs, peppers and beets.”
All food items are stored year round in cold storage, and Reilly’s Produce also serves as a wholesale supplier for local restaurants. Other items they carry include indoor and outdoor plants, trees, shrubs, bushes, flowers, and related accessories. Seasonal flowers for proms, weddings, funerals and gift giving can be had in arrangements created by the Mennonite workers. Memorial arrangements that include small statues and cemetery items are also available.
They exhibit a great enthusiasm for the community and there is a family atmosphere to their shop. Plans for a 4th of July Pig Roast and other eating fests are in the making. They plan on having a focus on kids, a scheduled Kids Kraft Korner for the summer, along with a moon bounce and other kids’ events.
There is plenty of space to expand and loads of off street parking at their location. Hours of operation are: Monday to Friday 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Sat, 9 a.m.-8pm; Sun. 12noon -5 p.m.
