The Lutheran Home at Topton is beginning what its staff members hope will become a new tradition: a strawberry festival.
The event, which will feature live music, children’s activities, and a variety of strawberry-themed food stations, will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. June 8. Admission and parking are free.
‘Our goal is to have a multi-generational, family-focused event to celebrate the arrival of summer and our connections with the community,’ says Lou Wentz, director of community life at the Diakon senior living community, 1 South Home Ave.
The event, to be held rain or shine, will feature the Jack Murray Trio, strawberry spoon races among a range of activities for children, food stations by Morrison Senior Dining including strawberry ice-cream sundaes, and the sale of fresh strawberries, baked goods, and other items. Tours of senior living and personal care accommodations, as well as memory support and nursing and rehabilitative care, will be available.
Proceeds from the event will benefit several fund drives at the senior living community including benevolent care, piano-restoration project, memory-support programming, and a Wellness Edge walking-path fund.
People attending the event should enter The Lutheran Home at Topton campus by way of Henningsville Road at Herman’s Drive-in.
