Brandywine Heights softball game postponed to Tuesday

Friday, June 7, 2013

With two wins in state competition under their belt, the Brandywine Heights High School softball team has made it to the semifinal round.
There the Lady Bullets took on undefeated Holy Redeemer (18-0) in Allentown on Tuesday, June 11 (postponed from June 10 due to rain). Due to our press deadline, we are unable to report the results of the contest.
If they won that game, they would advance to the championship game on Friday, June 14, at Nittany Lion Softball Park at 10 a.m. in University Park. They would play the winner of the Riverside vs. Phillipsburg Oseola game.
In the PIAA State Class AA quarterfinal contest last week, the Brandywine High School Lady Bullets battled Pen Argyl. Olsen hurled a three-hit shutout to lead Brandywine to a 6-0 victory. The victory sends the locals to the semifinals on Monday, June 10, where they will take on Holy Redeemer in Allentown.
Taylor Brintzenhoff got the Bullets off on the right foot when she smacked a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning.
Jessica Musser tripled in the second and scored on a double by Lauren Olsen to make it 3-0. Then Samantha Sweigart singled home Olsen for a 4-0 Brandywine lead.
They added two more in the fourth on a two-run single by Sweigart, which would be more than they would need.
Sweigart finished the game with with hits, a run scored and three RBIs, while Amanda Hess had a pair of hits.
On Monday, June 3, the Lady Bullets opened the state tournament against Philadelphia Academy Charter. This one turned out to be an easy one as Brandywine breezed to a 15-0 victory. The game was stopped after four innings due to the mercy rule.
While the Bullets slammed 16 hits in 3 1/3 innings at the plate, pitcher Megan Olsen tossed a four inning perfect game, fanning six batters.
The Bullets scored twice in the bottom of the first, then plated eight runs in the third to break the game open, then scored five runs in the fourth to end the game with only one out in the inning.
Samantha Sweigart and Taylor Brintzenhoff led the Brandywine offense. Sweigart had three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs, while Brintzenhoff added three hits, two RBIs and one run scored.
Jessica Musser added a single, home run, two RBIs and two runs scored and Olsen helped her own casue with two hits (single and a double) and one RBI. Jennifer Seabourne had a hit and two runs scored and Tiffany Diehl had a hit, one run scored and two RBIs.
