Katelyn Makara of Narvon showed her beautiful dark Bay gelding Daddy’s Money in local hunter classes at the Devon Horse Show on May 31 and June 1. The Devon Horse Show is one of the largest horse shows in the United States. The classes were divided into two sections when considering the ninety horses that had been entered. Performance and soundness were judged as each horse jumped a challenging array of nine different three-foot three-inch obstacles which might be confronted while fox hunting. The horse and rider were given a total of points for their performance. Makara said overall she placed in the upper third of entries. Local hunter classes at Devon do not require a participant to qualify their horses by showing at other shows prior to Devon.
In the classes she entered there was a challenge trophy and awards for the eight riders with the highest point totals. In The local hunter under saddle the horse and rider were judged at a walk, trot and canter and hand gallop both ways in the ring. Light contact with the bit was required.
Makara has been to shows at Penn State and in Florida and at many spots in Pennsylvania. It was her first trip to Devon. They have been to several shows held at the Ludwig’s Corner Horse Show grounds. She enjoys riding and is proud of her horse’s performance. Makara and Daddy’s Money accumulated 67 points in her first class. Makara said she really appreciates her trainer Leigh Berman who had s provided a lot of help over the last several years. She has had Daddy’s Money for six years and is very happy with him.
