Police reports for the week of June 3

Hamburg Borough Police

Accident

The Hamburg Borough Police report that a Reportable Traffic Accident occurred on May 15, at approx. 10:18 p.m. in the intersection of South 3rd & Pine Streets in Hamburg. Scott Dietterick, 46, from Hamburg, was traveling south on South 3rd Street, at the green traffic light he attempted to make a left hand turn to travel east on Pine Street. Michael R. Berk, 56, from the Hamburg area, was traveling north on South 3rd Street, approached the green traffic light and proceeded into the intersection to continue to travel north on 3rd Street, when Dietterick’s vehicle struck Berk’s vehicle. Both drivers had their seat belts on. Berk’s vehicle was towed from the scene. No injuries reported.

Stolen Snake Recovery

The Hamburg Borough Police report that on June 8, sometime around 11 a.m. police were called to the Hamburg Field House due to recovering stolen snakes. The snakes were stolen from a residence in Julian, PA., Union Township, Centre County. The snakes were identified through photos in a database used by the Reptile Expo. Staff. Burglary Investigation conducted by PA State Police, Troop G, Philipsburg.

Hamburg Police recovered five Pythons total value of $7,100. The snakes were in general good health. The owner was contacted; he identified and retrieved the snakes.

Nathan Gerald Flick, of Bellefonte, was arrested for Receiving Stolen Property. Officer Robert Mengle obtained information that lead to the recovery of additional snakes that were also stolen from the same residence. Total value of stolen snakes is approximately $30,000.

Criminal Mischief

The Hamburg Borough Police report that a 17-year-old female juvenile from Hamburg was cited for Criminal Mischief. This stems from an incident that allegedly occurred on May 19 at approx. 10:15 p.m. in the 200 Block of North Apple Street in Hamburg.

Simple Assault

The Hamburg Borough Police report that Franco Keano Borelli, 20, from Hamburg, was charged with Simple Assault, Criminal Conspiracy, Harassment, and Disorderly Conduct. Also, a 17-year-old female juvenile from Hamburg and a 17-year-old female juvenile from West Lawn were cited for Harassment. These charges stem from an incident that allegedly occurred on May 20, at approx. 12:43 a.m. in the 200 Block of North Apple Street in Hamburg.

State Police

Accident

The crash occurred on SR 183 at the intersection of the entrance ramp to I-78 eastbound in Upper Tulpehocken Twp. on June 9 at 4:48 p.m. John Moriarty, IV, 67, of Kempton, was traveling south on SR 183 in the right lane on his 2007 Harley-Davidson. William J. Fleming, 47, of Youngstown, was traveling north on SR 183 in the right lane in his 2010 Nissan Frontier. Moriarty was attempting to turn left onto the entrance ramp of I-78 eastbound and in doing so, turned directly into the path of Fleming. Moriarty’s Harley-Davidson was struck by Fleming’s Nissan while in the middle of the northbound lane.

After impact, Moriarty was thrown from his motorcycle onto the east side shoulder of the lane. He was not wearing a helmet. Moriarty was transported to Reading Hospital with major injuries to his left side/abdominal area. The Harley-Davidson was towed from the scene due to disabling damage. Fleming was not injured as a result of the crash and was wearing his seat belt.

Bethel Twp. EMS, Strausstown Fire Dept./Fire Police and VJ Wood Recovery assisted at the scene.

Burglary

Between May 12 and May 28, unknown actor(s) gained entry to the home of Peter Horst, 44, of Leesport, in the 000 Block of Schuylkill Hill Rd., Centre Twp. and removed a Charter Arms “Off Duty” revolver from the victim’s gun safe. Actor(s) then fled the scene undetected and in an unknown manner. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact PSP-Reading at 610-378-4011.

Theft

Between May 30 and June 1, unknown actor(s) gained entry to A to Z U-Pull it at 196 Ridge Rd., Perry Twp. by means of crawling under a chain linked fence. Once inside the property, actor(s) located 23 vehicles, ranging from different makes, models and years and proceeded to cut the catalytic converters our from underneath them by utilizing a “sawzaw.” Actor(s) then fled the above location in an unknown directions by means undetected. Total estimated property stolen: $4,600. Total estimated property damaged by cutting catalytic converters: $9,200. Anyone with information pertaining to this investigation is asked to contact Tpr. Disorderly Conduct

In the commission of this crime, actor(s) arrived at the home of Tracy Elaine Yeager, 44, of Shoemakersville, in Shoemakersville and proceeded to smear an unknown liquid on the front windshield of their vehicle in their driveway. Actor(s) then fled the scene. Anyone with information in reference to the crime please contact PA State Police at 610-562-6885.

Accident

The accident occurred on June 1 at Mabel Lane and its intersection with Old Route 22. Barbara A. Henn, 72, of Hamburg, was traveling north on Mabel Ln. in the right lane of travel while approaching a property posted stop sign. Michael J. Curry, 48, of Lenhartsville, was traveling west on Old Route 22 in the right lane of traveling while approaching the intersection of Mabel Ln. on his 2002 Yamaha Star. Henn came to a proper stop at the stop sign in her 2009 Toyota Corolla, but failed to see Curry. Henn turned left onto Old Route 22 directly in the path of Curry. He observed Henn in his path and activated his brakes which caused him to skid. Curry swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid a collision. He lost control of his vehicle which caused it to impact against the road. Henn’s vehicle did not sustain any damage due to the vehicles not coming into contact with each other.

The Yamaha Star sustained disabling damage due to being laid over on the roadway and was towed from the scene. Henn was wearing her seat belt and was not injured. Curry was wearing a helmet and sustained minor injury as a result of the crash. He was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital for treatment.

Crash/DUI

Jordan Pierce Ernst, 21, of Reading, was driving on Industrial Drive, Tilden Twp. on June 1 when he failed to negotiate a left curve. Ernst struck a curb and lost control, traveling into the opposing lane of travel. The 1999 Saturn struck and jumped a curb where it then struck a fire hydrant. The vehicle traveled down an embankment in front of Boat and RV and came to final rest after striking the concrete base of a light pole.

Ernst was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. He was transported by Hamburg EMS to St. Joseph’s Hospital due to injuries sustained. The Saturn was towed from the scene by Trail Towing. Hamburg Fire Company assisted on the scene.

Accident

The crash occurred on I-78 westbound on ramp 50 feet south of Camp Swatara Rd. on June 3 at 9:57 p.m. Robert Aggrey, 42, of Johnson City, was entering the on ramp to I-78 westbound from SR 645 north and Lyndon D. Champ, 20, of Bethel, was entering the on ramp to I-78 westbound from SR 645 south. Aggrey was traversing the ramp and struck by Champ’s 1998 Ford Escort. The front of the Ford struck the right rear of Aggrey’s 2000 Dodge Durango. Upon impact, Camp’s Ford came to an abrupt stop facing west on the ramp. Aggrey’s Dodge traveled an undetermined distance west on the ramp and came to rest facing west.

All occupants refused medical treatment from Bethel Ambulance. Traffic was controlled by members of Frystown Fire Co. Investigation continues.

Accident

A one vehicle crash occurred on I-78 eastbound at mile marker 33.5 in Windsor Twp., on June 6 at 3 p.m. A 16 year old Allentown male was driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla with a 15 year old Allentown male passenger on I-78 in the right lane. A red colored truck tractor moved from the left lane toward the right lane. The 16 year old male moved right and applied the brakes causing the Corolla to lose road traction due to the wet roadway. The vehicle spun and struck the guiderail. The vehicle continued approx. 55 feet in a south east direction and struck evergreen trees and turf on private property belonging to Chad Behler, of Lenhartsville. The vehicle came to rest on the property facing in a south east direction.

Both occupants refused medical treatment from responding Hamburg Ambulance. Investigation continues.

Accident

A one vehicle crash occurred on I-78 westbound 1/10 mile west of Exit 29 in Tilden Twp., on June 6 at 6:59 p.m. Steven John Weimert, 32, of Orefield, was traveling westbound in the left lane. Weimert’s 2003 Saturn Ion lost road traction due to the wet roadway and spun toward the north berm. The rear of the vehicle struck the guiderail end and came to rest facing east. Weimert refused medical treatment from responding Hamburg Ambulance. The Saturn received severe rear damage. Investigation continues.
