Dessert in a 9 x 13 pan – easy to travel with, easy to make, tastes great, fruity and light – that’s Fleetwood resident Lorraine Cochrane’s recipe for Strawberry Bars. You can substitute any kind of fruit preserves and change the flavor if you prefer peach, blueberry, etc.
Strawberry Bars recipe
3/4 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 cups quick oats
1 (10 oz. jar of strawberry preserves although any flavor could be used)
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy: add rest of ingredients except preserves. Press 1/2of ingredients into 9 X 13 inch pan. Spread w/preserves. Sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture.
Bake 400 degrees for 20 - 25 minutes
