Gail Young of the Woman’s Club of Kutztown pleads for the safe return of the Welcome to Kutztown sign on Greenwich Street, which was stolen this spring.
‘Members are upset about the loss of the sign and especially that someone, possibly students, would actually have so little regard for something in our community,’ said Young.
The Woman’s Club of Kutztown, along with donations from the Hobos, Historical Society, Rotary Club, and Main Street Fund commissioned Rockland Signs to create this sign at a cost of $1,876.
‘Purchasing the sign was a community effort with the Hobos, Historical Society, Rotary Club, and Main Street Fund,’ she said.
The sign was installed in fall 2008 by the borough at the mini-park on Greenwich Street as a welcome to all who enter Kutztown via Route 737.
‘Several weeks ago, one of our club members noticed that it was ‘missing.’ I notified Mayor Sandy Green who in turn contacted borough officials and the police department. Local landlords were notified and requested to keep an eye out for it. So far, it has not turned up!’ said Young.
The Club is looking for help to recover the sign which would then be permanently cemented into the ground.
‘We would love the sign to be returned since we do not have the funds to replace it,’ she said.
