Pennsylvania State Police confirmed Saturday afternoon that the man who died in a two-car crash early Saturday, July 6, on Interstate 95 was from Boyertown.
On Tuesday, July 9, the man was identified by police as Darryl W. Davis, 67. The name was not immediately released until the next of kin was located and notifed.
According to the July 6 press release, the crash occurred at 3:30 a.m. while Davis’s tan Chrysler 300 was sitting on the right shoulder of the southbound lanes of I-95. Police said the second car, driven by a 26-year-old Broomall man, was in the westbound left lane on the interstate when it began to spin clockwise.
According to police, the spinning blue BMW 335i traveled across the southbound lanes and hit the rear driver’s side corner of the parked Chrysler.
Police said the BMW then rolled over and finally stopped on its roof, in the grass on the north side of the road.
Due to the impact of the rolling car, Davis’s Chrysler was pushed off the road and into the grass, police said.
The 26-year-old driver of the BMW was extricated from the car and transported to Crozer Chester Medical Center, police said.
The report also indicated that the injuries suffered by Davis were fatal; he was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the BMW sustained bad injuries.
According to Trooper Rosemary McGuire of Pennsylvania State Police, Media, an individuals’s name would never be released without first locating the next of kin.
‘It took a bit of doing-even though it’s 2013 with all of the social media-it’s not always easy locating the next of kin.’
During the search, assistance from other police departments was requested.
According to McGuire, the name of the 26-year-old is being withheld at this time.
