Amity Elementary Center opened its doors for the first of four tour days on July 9.
The tours were available from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for students who would be entering grades kindergarten through fourth grade in the fall.Previously, grades K-2 were housed in the old Amity Primary Center building and grades 3-5 were housed in Amity Intermediate Center through the end of last school year. Now the Amity Primary Center building is closed and the intermediate center has been converted to the Amity Elementary Center. The AEC will house kindergarten through fifth grade for those students living in the Amity and Douglassville portions of the Daniel Boone Area School District starting from Daniel Boone Road to Loyalsock Drive over to Russell Avenue and ending at 662. ‘I think it’s great. More and more people are coming,’ principal Annarose Massaro said of the turnout. Massaro is entering her fourth year as principal and this will be the first year she will have a permanent office after bouncing back and forth between the two buildings. Massaro said she is looking forward to having ‘everybody under one roof’ in the fall.
Outgoing students entering the fifth grade in the fall led the tours for the students and their families. The students that were selected to give the tours had signed up to help at the end of the school year in June.
The tour started in the main lobby outside the office, passed the library and then came to the upstairs hallway that will hold kindergarten, first, second, and some of third grade. The downstairs hallway will hold the rest of third grade, and all of fourth and fifth grade, along with the occupational, physical, and speech therapy, a reading specialist, and a gifted room.
Back upstairs the tour continued past the art, general music and band rooms and students could get a view of the playground, cafeteria, and gymnasium before concluding with the nurse, guidance counselors’ and principal’s offices in the rear of the main office where the tour had started.
If you missed the first tour date and you and/or your child would like a tour of Amity Elementary Center, there are three more opportunities to tour the school. Viewing times are from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. July 18 will be the next tour day, with July 24 and July 29 being the final two tour days.
