Daniel Boone The Orioles began the week with a game at Conrad Weiser. Daniel Boone jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Scouts came back with three in the bottom of the inning on their way to a 4-2 victory over Boone.
Sage Moyer had two of Boone’s seven hits in the game.
Nathan Halter was the losing pitcher.
The Orioles trek through the playoffs was a short one as they were eliminated after losing the first two games.
In the opener the Orioles traveled to Boyertown to take on the top-seeded Bears. Boyertown scored in six of their eight innings and defeated the Orioles, 10-2. Two Boyertown pitchers combined to no-hit Boone.
The Bears jumped on Daniel Boone early, scoring three runs in the first, one in the second and two in the third. Meanwhile Boyertown pitcher Mitch Renninger was working right through the Daniel Boone hitters, pitching seven no-hit innings with two walks and nine strike outs. He was taken out after seven and Chase Endy took over, hurling two scoreless, no-hit innings.
Halter was the losing pitcher, allowing six runs (five earned) on four hits and five walks in 3 1/3 innings.
The loss sent the Orioles to the losers bracket on July 11 where they took on Conrad Weiser. A three-run first inning was enough for the Scouts as they defeated Daniel Boone, 4-2.
The Orioles had six hits in the game, but didn’t dent the scoreboard until they scored one in the fourth, then added one more in the seventh.
Exeter The Blue Jays upset first place Boyertown on July 6, 3-2. With the game tied at 1-1, Exeter scored two runs in the bottom of the second which turned out to be all they would need to score.
Jake Lloyd was the winning pitcher, allowing six Boyertown hits in the complete game effort. He struck out six and walked five.
Aaron Gentry drove in both Exeter runs in the second and Scott Galbraith scored Tyler Bowers in the first inning.
The Blue Jays headed into the playoffs as the number two seed. Their opening game was against Shillington on July 10. Joe Richie pitched a five-hit shutout to lead Exeter to
a 2-0 victory. The Jays only had five hits as well, with single runs scoring in the second and seventh innings.
Jake Wortman’s RBI single in the second inning turned out to be the winning run for Exeter. They added an insurance run in the seventh on a RBI double by Darien Sarlat.
The victory sent Exeter to the winners bracket where they took on Twin Valley. This time the Blue Jay offense was a lot more productive, while pitcher Jake Lloyd had his ‘A’ game going. Lloyd pitched a one-hit shutout to lead the Jays to a 10-0 victory.
Exeter jumped on the Raiders quickly, scoring three times in the first, two in the second and two more in the fourth. With three more in the seventh, the game was called due to the mercy rule.
In his seven innings of work. Lloyd walked just one, and struck out 13.
Exeter was led offensively by Scott Galbraith who had three hits (two singles and a double), drove in four runs and scored one. Tyler Bowers added a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Shillington Sr. Legion The Shillington Sr. Legion team headed into the Berks League playoffs as the number seven seed. The Red Sox first game was at second-seeded Exeter. The Sox were unable to produce anything offensively against Exeter pitcher Joe Ritchie who helped the Blue Jays defeat Shillington, 2-0.
Exeter scored one in the second and one more in the seventh as each team had just five hits in the game.
Tanner DeLucia was the losing pitcher.
The loss sent Shillington to the losers bracket where they took on West Lawn on July 11. The Red Sox took a 3-0 lead after three innings, but the Owls came back with four runs in the third, then added two more in the seventh and eighth innings to defeat Shillington, 8-4. The loss eliminated the Sox from the tournament.
Eric Mock led the Shillington offense with a double and two RBIs. Buddy Ebersole was the losing pitcher.
Daniel Boone Jr. Legion The Daniel Boone Jr. Legion Orioles defeated Exeter on July 9, 6-3. The Orioles were led by Zach Brightbill who had three hits, one RBI and two runs scored. Jared Gasparti added a single, triple and two RBIs.
Brandon Cymbalski was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs on two hits in five innings, fanning three. Christian Decker pitched the final two innings.
