The beanstalk will grow before your eyes! The giant will tower over you! And the musical drama will dazzle you!

Students from Blandon, Bernville, Mohrsville, Mohnton, Shillington, Mt. Penn and Exeter will portray villagers in ‘Jack and the Giant’ July 19 to 21.

Caroline Maciejewski, Maggie Angstadt, Sharon Borkey, Emily Maciejewski, Olivia Hill, Morgan Donate, Joshua Angstadt, Katie Lindsley, Erin Apsokardu, Micah Sandusky, Sarah Maciejewski, Joshua Dauberman and Audrey Hill will perform in a musical retelling of the favorite tale of Jack and the Beanstalk.

Rainbow Theatre and the Miller Center for the Arts, at Reading Area Community College, will present the musical July 19, 7 p.m., July 20, 7 p.m., and July 21, 3 p.m. at the Miller Center, 2nd and Penn streets, Reading, with a cast of more than 30 students, ages 7 to 17. The entire family will be entertained with much music, dance, and action.

As the famous story goes, the giant is making life pretty miserable for Jack, his mother and the entire kingdom. Jack is even forced to sell his beloved dancing cow for magic beans. And where does Jack go? That’s right! Jack goes up the beanstalk and into the castle where he not only fights the giant, but the Trolls as well. By the end of this special tale, the cow is returned, his chicken lays golden eggs, and the good life returns to the kingdom. This show is spiced with a variety of tunes like ‘Good Things Are Bound to Happen,’ the Giant’s ‘Fee Fi Fo Fum’ and the company’s toe-tapping ‘Run, Jack, Run,’ that will have adults and children singing along.

Now in its 22 year, Rainbow Theatre is a performing group for students, who have an interest in performing and learning about theatre production. They have performed in Disney World, at the Pennsylvania State Capitol, and on a Royal Caribbean performance cruise to Bermuda. Rainbow Theatre also performs for local community, school, and corporate events. They have been praised for their talent, youthful energy, and community spirit.

Jack and the Giant is directed by Carol Toomey, with musical direction by Kay Wadsworth, choreography by Kim Feltenberger, set design by Lisa Sweitzer, technical assistance by Brett Buckwalter, and costume design and coordination by Marianne Maciejewski and Maureen Helms.
