The Alpha/Omega Players will close their 35th anniversary season with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award Winning “Best Musical” CATS, August 2, 3, 9, 10 at 8 p.m. and August 4, 11 at 3 p.m. in the Alpha/Omega Performing Arts Center, 301 E. First Street, Birdsboro, Pa.
CATS which ran for 18 years on Broadway and is the second longest running musical in history won seven Tony Awards in 1982. The show composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Eliot.
The musical tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night they make what is known as “the Jellicle choice” and decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life. Cats also introduced the song standard “Memory.”
The Alpha/Omega production stars Maria Damore as Grizabella the Glamour Cat, Mark Drey as Old Deuteronomy, Jacob Cowan as Munkustrap, Josh Bellamy as Mr. Mistoffelees, Sarah Wisser as Bombalurina, Chris Weiss as Bustopher Jones, Melissa Kaufmann as Demeter, Steph Bricker as Jellylorum, Amanda Delbo as Griddlebone, Gordon Joyner as Gus the theatre cat, Deb Kasdras as Jenny Any Dotts, James Damore as Mungojerrie and Mandalee Flannery as Rumpleteezer, Stephen Barszowski as The Rum Tum Tugger, Tyler Ravert as Skimbleshanks, Oliva Damore as Jemima, James Barksdale as Macavity, Brianna Hafer as Victoria, Julian Morales as Alonzo, Mary Britton as Carbucketty, Megan Centeno as Cassandra, Amy Swartz as Coricopat, Meghan O’Neill as Tantomile, Meghan Austin as Electra, Krista Grevas as Etcetera, Allison Gieringer as Exotica, Nicole Greenfield as Tumblebrutus and Molly O’Brian Sillabub.
The production is Choreographed and Directed by Melissa Kaufmann assisted by Mark Drey. Musical Director and Conductor of the 16 piece pit orchestra is Nathan Patton. The set was designed by Mark Drey, Gordon Joyner and William Eschbach and producer is Kerry Drey.
