Join the Friends of the Daniel Boone Homestead, 400 Daniel Boone Road, Birdsboro, for the largest, colonial living history event in Berks County since 2008. The Revolutionary War Encampment is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, August 10 and Sunday, August 11.
The Friends are excited to bring back this popular event that will include over 150 participants. Visitors will be immersed in eighteenth century military and home life and will witness firsthand the colonial hardships both on the battlefield and off. In the parade field, visitors will be able to tour the military camps and learn about the weaponry used during the American Revolution. Each day will feature two battle re-enactments: a small tactical at 10:30a.m. and the grand battle re-enactment at 2p.m. Throughout the day, visitors will also have the opportunity to shop in an eighteenth century marketplace, featuring authentic, colonial vendors, similar to what would have followed the armies across the colonies.
In the historic area, visitors can enjoy living history presentations and tours of the Boone House and Bertolet Log House. Visitors can watch the blacksmith make iron work used in the military and on the home front, observe our town’s gunsmith hard at work producing the arms necessary for the American Revolution, and see interpreters processing flax and wool to make clothing. Children can try their hand at colonial toys and participate in the militia muster, where they will march with wooden dummy guns and learn some of the techniques used by armies on the battlefield.
The Daniel Boone Homestead is the birthplace of the famed frontiersman, born in 1734. The Boone House, constructed in three stages throughout the eighteenth century, is a 10-room stone structure fully furnished to the period and situated on 579 acres of rolling countryside. The Daniel Boone Homestead is located halfway between Reading and Pottstown, one mile north of Rt. 422 near Baumstown. The Homestead is owned by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and daily historic operations are funded by the Friends of the Daniel Boone Homestead, a local, non-profit organization.
