The Boyertown Area School District is excited and prepared to serve over 7,000 students this year at our ten schools. The following are some highlights as we start the school year for students on August 28:

*We welcome Mrs. Stephanie Landis as our new Principal at Gilbertsville Elementary School. Mrs. Landis brings extensive experience from Berks County schools as an elementary teacher and administrator.

*We welcome Mrs. Stephanie Petri to her new role as Assistant Principal at Boyertown Junior High East. Mrs. Petri had previously served in our district as a teacher and lead teacher.

*We hired highly qualified staff to fill open positions and increased our teaching staff by six positions concentrated in areas that provide additional support for student achievement. We are committed to ensuring that all students are prepared to succeed.

*All schools continue to implement our Response to Instruction and Intervention initiative. This approach identifies our students’ need for enrichment or additional assistance and matches these needs to support from staff. All schools have increased the availability of support for students this year.

*Another initiative we continue to strengthen is our School Wide Effective Behavior Support. Through this approach we have increased positive behavior in our schools which allows for all students to achieve success. Gilbertsville and New Hanover Upper Frederick Elementary Schools will implement the program this year.

*We are pleased to open an elementary emotional support program at Boyertown Elementary School. This program includes academic and therapeutic support for students from our seven elementary schools.

*I am pleased to join BASD as Superintendent of Schools. My initial observations show that we are fortunate to have talented students, dedicated employees, involved parents/guardians and supportive community members. This combination allows us to ensure that great achievement takes place for our students in the classroom and beyond. My wife, daughter, and I are excited to call this community our home and we look forward to a successful start to the 2013-14 school year.

Sincerely, Richard H. Faidley, Ed.D.
