Honey Brook’s annual Harmony Day is beginning to come together, and it’s grown to incorporate more of the township and borough.
This year the event is set for Sept. 21. The Honey Brook Community Partnership is placing a focus on the Borough Park to compliment the traditional activities around the borough and township, such as the craft fair at Heatherwood and the book sale at the Honey Brook Library, Janet Heinis, chair for Harmony Day 2013, said.
There will be a lot of returning favorites, Heinis said. For example, Wimpy and Dee’s will once again sponsor their cruise-in car show featuring some really snazzy cars and trucks beautifully restored and kept by their owners.
A Taste of Honey Brook, which began last year, may also return. If viable, the American Legion Hall has agreed to host it from 10:30 a.m. to noon to provide a larger space for crowds and for their kitchen facilities. There, visitors can taste a sample of the area delicacies as well as visit with some community service organization booths.
After visiting Taste of Honeybrook, parents can get their kids ready for a candy drop, Heinis said. Sponsored by Menagerie Farm, there will be a fly-over candy drop in the Borough Park. Once the candy has all fallen safely in the park, children will be allowed into the drop area to pick it all up.
There will be live music in the park this year from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring two popular local groups, the Fortunatos and Green Tea Revival. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring a chair to set up.
The park activities will also include visits from several celebrities like Pipper the Clown, sponsored by Marsha Kirschner DMD, and the Chic-Fil-A Cow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. And in one of his debut appearances, none other than Mr. Whoop E. Pie himself will be visiting from Shady Maple from 10 to 11 a.m. If it sounds like the borough park activities are geared towards children and families, it’s because they are.
‘We’re really focusing on the children of Honey Brook and the concept of a family festival in the park,’ Heinis said.
In that spirit, the park will also feature pony rides courtesy of Hickory House, a bouncy house sponsored by Knies Insurance, glitter tattoos and colorful hair extensions by Shear Images Salon, face painting by the Rehab Center, a prize wheel by Susquehanna Bank and more.
At the firehouse there will be refreshments and visits from Smokey the Bear and Sparkey the firehouse dog. Those interested in becoming volunteers will have an opportunity to speak to current volunteers about signing up that day.
That’s not to dissuade residents of other ages, though. Organizers have worked to get groups that will interest people of all ages, Heinis said.
There will be informational booths, give-aways and demonstrations by the Honey Brook Historical Society, The Western Chester County Republican Party, The Chester County Hospital Wellness Health Fair, Brandywine Conservancy, Twin Valley Fitness Center, Coatesville Senior Center and Dragon Breath Grotto Venturing Crew 9.
The Howell Lodge will also be present with their Children’s Identification Program trailer to educate guests about the services they provide for helping abducted children, she added.
Additionally, attendees will be able to get their pets blessed at Living God Lutheran Church, grab a bite to eat at the Presbyterian and Methodist Churches in town and enjoy a Pickleball tournament at the township park. M&T Bank will host the Keystone blood mobile, which will be holding a very important blood drive on site.
‘It should be an excellent day in Honey Brook,’ Heinis said. ‘We hope to see you in the ‘Brook that day.’
