The members of the Morgantown Community Church, who like to say ‘We are THAT Church,’ are buzzing with excitement. This is the second year they will be sponsoring an old-fashioned carnival for the public on the church grounds.

The church, located at 4221 Main St., Elverson, has partnered up with Houghton Enterprises, the same company that does the Reading Fair and the New Holland Famers Fair to provide rides, games and food Sept. 5-8.

Close your eyes and hear the whirl and twists and turns of the rides, smell the homemade chicken corn noodle soup, hot dogs with kraut, popcorn, funnel cake and more. Imagine the sticky feel of cotton candy and candy apples coupled with the taste of lemonade and chilled sodas. Then open your eyes to a midway filled with neighbors, friends and strangers playing games of chance – some lucky ones winning the fuzzy fun prizes.

Sandy Bressler, event coordinator, said, ‘Last year’s event was a huge success, even with the rain, and we are looking forward to an even bigger turnout this September 5-8. It is the only carnival for miles around. There is plenty of parking on the church grounds and we will run a shuttle to a close by pick-up and drop-off area.’

Bressler is a 12 year member of this quickly growing non-denominational church, which has had an 800 percent increase in membership over the last five years. She said the proceeds will help to build a new, larger sanctuary.

Bressler and Theresa Crow, along with their committee and the blessing and leadership of Pastor Bill Wright, are pulling out all the stops for fun and fellowship.

The carnival will be open 6-10 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 3-10 p.m. Saturday and 1-8 p.m. Sunday.

Admission to the event is free and attendees can purchase a $20 wristband to ride all rides. Attendees can pre-order wristbands for $15 before Sept. 4 or print discount coupons from www.houghtoncarnival.com.
