Tilden Township Police were dispatched to the Tilden Township Police Department at 870 Hex Highway on Aug. 27 at 9:51 a.m. to meet with a resident who had found an object in his driveway that he believed to be a bomb. The object was packaged in a zip lock bag with papers about joining the Traditionalist American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. The resident picked up the bag and drove it to the police station. He left the object in his vehicle.
Upon arrival, the responding officer evacuated the township building and blocked off the area with the assistance of a Berks County Sheriff’s Deputy K9 unit. The Reading City Police Department Bomb Squad was dispatched to the scene to evaluate the object. The object was determined to be cat litter in cylindrical shaped aluminum foil, which was most likely used to weigh the bags down so they did not blow away.
There were no threats or mentions of a bomb in the papers included in the bags. The bags were distributed in the driveways of about a dozen residences in the 2100 to 2400 blocks of Mountain Road, Tilden Township.
