This week’s BIG SHOT comes to us from Boy Scout Troop 37:

The Committee Members of Elverson Boy Scout Troop 37 would like to acknowledge Anthony Malcom for achieving the Eagle Scout Rank. Anthony joined Troop 37 in 2009 and quickly began his path to Eagle rank. He has held all of the major leadership positions available to a Scout: senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol Leader, patrol leader, and assistant patrol leader. He took each position very seriously, exhibiting the Scout Oath and Law each step of the way. Anthony is the second scout to achieve over 40 merit badges in the history of Troop 37. Even though he has aged out of the scouting program, he will remain a part of the troop by staying on as an assistant scoutmaster.

Anthony became a member of the Order of the Arrow in the spring of 2011. The OA is the National Honor Society of Scouting. It is earned by a vote of your peers and is considered for those Scouts who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives, and through that recognition show others how to conduct themselves in a similar fashion.

Anthony has participated in numerous community events such as the 100th Anniversary of Elverson, roadside cleanups for both Elverson Borough and East Nantmeal Township, and the former cardboard recycling for Elverson Borough.

For his Eagle Scout project, Anthony designed and constructed three picnic tables for the pavilion at Elverson Borough Hall, since the ones there had become dilapidated and unusable. He designed one of the picnic tables specifically for smaller children. In addition to building the picnic tables, he also power washed the concrete floor and ceiling of the pavilion, removed graffiti, and power washed the adjoining playground equipment and bench. The committee is proud of Anthony’s achievements and accomplishments and wishes him the best in his future endeavors.
