Honey Brook Community Library offers Story Time with Miss Jennifer Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m., Sept. 11 through Dec. 5, 2013. Enjoy songs, stories and crafts and help your child become a great reader. The same story time is held on both days. Best suited for preschool age 2-5 years old, but all ages are welcome! Honey Brook Community Library offers Raise a Reader with Miss Melissa every other Tuesday, Sept. 10 & 24, Oct. 8 & 22 & Nov. 5. Join us for fingerplays, music and lots of books. A Sewing Cafe for teens and adults will be held at the Honey Brook Library Wednesdays, Sept. 11- Oct. 16 & Oct. 30-Dec. 4 from 6:30-8 p.m. Older sewing machines are available or bring your own. Garden Spot Village ALIVE (Active Lifelong Learners in Vital Engagements) and Eastern Mennonite Seminary at Lancaster invite the community to an in-depth, six-session course titled “Christian Witness & Dialog with Muslims” beginning Sept. 11 at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave. in New Holland. Classes meet Mondays, 7-8:30 p.m., Sept. 30 – Nov. 4.

Still Waters Counseling Ministries will offer a class for women every other Tuesday beginning Sept. 24 at Conestoga Mennonite Church at 7 p.m. This class, led by Jill Waters, is entitled “The Value of You” and will emphasize the importance of women valuing themselves, with a focus on self-care and esteem. “Marathon Men,” a new men’s group, will begin on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. and continue for several weeks every other Tuesday at Conestoga Mennonite Church. This class will be led by Sam Waters, director of Still Waters Counseling Ministries and focus on equipping, supporting and encouraging men to cast off those issues that weigh them down. Sept. 13

Garden Spot Village invites the public to a performance of “Laughter is Sacred Space” beginning at 7 p.m. in the chapel, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland. Ted Swartz’s multi-media one-man play explores the paradox of working with a comedic partner struggling with bipolar disorder and the challenge of writing and performing stories about God while experiencing His absence after his partner’s death.

Sept. 14

Garden Spot Village invites the public to a free screening of three silent comedy shorts starring Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy with live musical accompaniment provided by theater organist Wayne Zimmerman. The three films are Duck Soup (1927), Habeas Corpus (1928) and Wrong Again (1929)and will begin at 7 p.m. in the chapel at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland. Honey Brook Methodist Church (Rt. 322 & Maple St.) is celebrating their 190th anniversary with an organ recital at 4 p.m. featuring their 1915 Moller pipe organ, played by Doug Wimer (local organist). Watch the documentary “High Tech, Low Life” followed by a discussion from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Garden South conference room at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland. Free. Caernarvon Township’s Parks and Recreation Committee (Berks County) will have a movie night featuring “Matilda” at 7 p.m. This event will be held in the township’s social hall located at 3307 Main St., Morgantown. Elverson Walking Club will complete its early morning series on the six mile Lenape Trail at French Creek.
