Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) at Fleetwood Bible Church are extending a helping hand to one of its moms.
MOPS hosts Together for Amy on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 10a.m. to 6p.m.at Bowers Park.
Amy Roth was recently re-diagnosed with Leukemia while pregnant with her third son. She was induced at 34 weeks to immediately start chemotherapy and is in line for a bone marrow transplant.
Her son, Nathaniel, born 5 pounds 3 ounces, spent several weeks in NICU.
The Topton mother and newborn baby boy were recently released from the hospital on the same day, Labor Day Weekend on Sunday, Sept. 1.
To help Amy, her husband, Jamie, and their three boys, the MOPS at Fleetwood Bible Church are holding a Vendor And Crafters Show at Bowers Park on Oct. 5.
‘This will help her family to be able to pay bills and provide for her family while she is recovering and her husband is out of work,’ said Alison Raifsnider, coordinator of Mops at Fleetwood Bible Church.
The MOPS hope to not only raise money to help Amy and her family financially, but also to raise awareness of the importance of blood donations and to hopefully find a bone marrow match for Amy.
Amy said she is overwhelmed by their thoughtfulness and generosity.
‘I fell like ‘Thank you’ is not enough. I am excited for the event and the awareness it will hopefully bring to others about Luekemia, blood donations, bone marrow donations and more,’ said Amy.
Raifsnider said MOPS decided to host this benefit event because Amy is a mom in their group they love dearly.
‘We know we were put on this Earth to serve others just as Jesus has commanded us to do. We would do anything to help any one mom struggling!’
Raifsnider described Amy as a very giving person who is caring to others.
Amy and Jamie founded Light The Way Ministries, which, according to Raifsnider, has assisted to raise and donate an excess of $20,566 to various non-profit organizations since November 2007.
‘Light The Way is changing lives in the name of Jesus!’ said Raifsnider.
Light the Way also hosts free concerts throughout the year and the Rock the Light music festival.
The benefit will have kids games, face painting, a moonbounce, a kiddies train, DJ music, live music, vendors and craft tables, raffles, shirts and food for sale. With more than 40 vendors participating, Raifsnider said they cannot add any other vendors or crafters to the event, they do not have the room.
‘All money raised from games, food, shirts and raffles will go directly to Amy! Everything at the event was donated so it all is going straight to the family,’ she said.
The MOPS moms hope all the money raised will help the Roth family pay bills, provide food and clothing for them. They want the family to be able to concentrate on helping Amy get healthy by not needing to worry about finances.
‘We are very excited to be doing this benefit for Amy! I have been so blessed to watch how this community had come together in donations and willingness to volunteer! There is no greater joy in life then serving others,’ said Raifsnider.
While Amy said she would love to be there at the benefit event, she does not know at what point she will be as far as treatment.
‘However, if I can’t physically be there, I will be there in spirit,’ said Amy.
