The Oley Board of Supervisors, at their Sept. 9 meeting, unanimously agreed to place a referendum on next May’s primary ballot asking residents if they would favor a tax in support of the Oley Valley Library.

The library, located in the administration building of the Oley Valley School District, has been operating for the last two years with limited funding from the township. Library officials are seeking a financial commitment from Oley residents in order to gain membership in the Berks County Library system.

Supervisor Jeff Spatz said the amount of the tax is yet to be determined, although library officials have indicated they are seeking a commitment of $5 per resident.
