The first annual Bark For Life of Boyertown Area will take place Sunday, October 6, 2013 from 11am-5pm at the Oley Valley Fairgrounds. Registration will open at 10am and is also available online. Parking will be available at the fairgrounds.
The American Cancer Society Bark For Life is a noncompetitive walk event for dogs and their owners to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer. By supporting Bark For Life, you help the American Cancer Society save lives, and that helps us move closer to our ultimate goal of a world with less cancer and more birthdays. A good portion of that money stays right here in Berks County and is used throughout the Boyertown and Oley Valley communities. The rest goes towards cancer research throughout the country. Participants are asked to bring dog essentials to be donated to area rescues including dog food, paper towels, blankets etc. Items can be dropped off at the registration table.
There are many activities scheduled throughout the day. Opening ceremonies will take place at 11am. There will be a short program that will include a welcoming and mission statement from Amy Miller, ACS representative, introduction of our Grand Marshal Sherry Sperring and her K-9 caregiver, Playgirl. There will be a survivor lap at 12pm. Dog games will include a K-9 costume contest, a K-9 and owner look-a-like contest, and a musical dog sit. Human activities will include a 50/50 raffle, hay bale toss, kids’ corner and 3 musical acts throughout the day. There will be food available for purchase and much more!
Grand Marshal Sherry Sperring and K-9 caregiver, Playgirl will be available throughout the day to hear more about their story. Playgirl came into Sperring’s life during her very strenuous battle with cancer. She truly believes her recovery was greatly increased by having Playgirl by her side. There is much research on the benefits of therapy dogs decreasing blood pressure, decreasing depression and much, much more.
Sponsors of the Bark For Life include Interstate Batteries, Scentual Gardens Soap, Bealer Chrio-Plus, Oley Valley Feed, Pet-Value, Goods Potato Chips, Gramia’s Restaurant, Tara Honey, Mark Memo and Penny Pierson.
