On Friday, Sept. 6, the Boyertown Area Multi-Service held its Third Annual Basket Raffle at the Gilbertsville Fire Company.
In addition to being a very enjoyable evening, the Basket Raffle also served as a fundraiser. The community supported the multi-service in a variety of ways; 118 baskets, 6 specialty baskets (including two Kindle Fires), 50 door prizes (mums, apple baskets, and treat baskets) and many home-baked treats were donated. Scott Green provided the audio equipment and his time to emcee the event. More than 400 people attended the Basket Raffle.
The community support was very gratifying as approximately $14,000 was raised!
These are very challenging times for Boyertown Area Multi-Service. Fundraisers such as our Annual Basket Raffle and The Festival of Trees account for a portion of the budget each year. Unfortunately, we received word of a budget cut from the Berks County Area Agency on Aging believed to be $50,000. Recently, that amount was revised to reflect a more accurate figure of $75,000. In addition, the Boyertown United Way did not make its goal leaving us a shortfall of an additional $17,500.
The Multi-Service continues to serve local residents as we’ve done for over 40 years. We are discussing our options to move forward in light of recent shortfalls. Be assured that we will continue to provide the same quality and quantity of service to individuals and families in the greater Boyertown Area to the very best of our ability.
The community’s support of our Basket Raffle demonstrates that you believe in the work our agency is doing to help make the Boyertown area a better place to live, work, and raise a family.
