At their clam bake Sept. 14, members of the Colonel Jacob Morgan American Legion Post 537 of Joanna honored Post Commander Sherman K. ‘Jake’ Ewing III, who passed away earlier this month. A small memorial with a photo of Ewing, flowers and an American flag was set up at his place at the bar. Behind his photo, a place was set for him with a mug of beer and his gavel. The tribute added a note of solemnity to the food and dancing as visitors and post members remembered their friend.
