The Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles is thrilled to announce the opening of their newest exhibit, ‘Falling Star: The Chevrolet Vega.’ This is a limited engagement exhibit and will only be on display through mid-October of 2013.
General Motors had high expectations for the Chevrolet Vega, which was introduced during the 1971 model year. Though the car was well-received by the public at first, engineering and design problems soon turned it into a widely reviled automobile. 1977 was the last production year for the Vega, and the end of a car that started out with such promise, only to plummet in approval ratings. The Vega is a lesson in the changing business model of General Motors in the 1970s, and many of the mistakes made with the Vega would be repeated by Detroit automakers in the following years.
On display at the Boyertown Museum will be four Vega automobiles, two of which are all-original limited edition Vegas. Also featured in ‘Falling Star: The Chevrolet Vega’ is a variety of Vega literature and memorabilia. This exhibit is a departure from previous exhibits at the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles and features a time period not covered in the Museum’s regular collection.
The Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:30 a.m.to 4 p.m. and is closed on Mondays. The Museum, located at 85 South Walnut Street in Boyertown, Pa. preserves the transportation history of southeastern Pennsylvania and displays over eighty locally manufactured cars, trucks, carriages, motorcycles, sleighs, and other types of vehicles.
