The annual October Farm Tour in Berks County is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 19, and will be featuring farms and agricultural businesses in the East Penn Valley of Berks County. The event is sponsored by the Berks Agricultural Resource Network (B.A.R.N.), a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the county’s agricultural industry and related food industries. Organized in 2008, B.A.R.N. has hosted this event for six years.
This year’s event will include dairy cattle, goats, mushrooms, preserved farms and more. Tour booklets can be purchased the day of the tour at Weaver’s Hardware, 732 Fleetwood Lyons Rd, Fleetwood, or call 610-944-7681, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The booklet contains a map of all the host farm locations, along with local restaurants, other sponsors, and B.A.R.N. information.
The Farm Tour hours are 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Cost per family vehicle. It is a self-driving tour. Educational displays by agricultural organizations will be part of the day’s tour, and the Berks Farm Women Society will be selling refreshments at one of the locations.
Each map purchase will include coupons to deposit at each host location to be in a post-tour drawing for special door prizes. ‘The more places you visit on Oct. 19, the better your chances of winning’ explained Miller. Only one coupon per location is allowed.
